TWELVE LEGIONS OF ANGELS

1. THERE WAS A HUSH IN THE GARDEN WHEN HE PRAYED ALL ALONE.

HE KNEW THAT HIS NIGHTMARE WAS NOW.

THE BETRAYER’S SOUR KISS AND THE FLASH OF  SWORD.

IT WAS TIME AND HIS HEAD HE DID BOW.

chorus

HE COULD HAVE SENT TWELVE LEGIONS OF ANGELS

TO STOP THE PROPHESIES AS THEY UNFOLDED.

BUT HE KNEW IN HIS HEART THAT FOR THIS WAS HE BORN.

HE SHOULDERED HIS CROSS AND WALKED DOWN THAT LONE ROAD

THAT LED TO HIS DEATH ON MOUNT CALVARY

THE PAIN THAT HE HAD TO ENDURE.

HE COULD HAVE SENT TWELVE LEGIONS OF ANGELS.

BUT FOR THE SINS OF ALL HE WAS THE CURE

2. HE WAS SPAT ON AND HATED AND TORTURED

BUT HIS FAITH REMAINED STRONG AND SO PURE.

BUT HE KNEW THE FULFILLING OF SCRIPTURES OH YES

BY HIS DEATH HE WAS THE ONE ONLY CURE.

chorus

HE COULD HAVE SENT TWELVE LEGIONS OF ANGELS

TO STOP THE PROPHESIES AS THEY UNFOLDED.

BUT HE KNEW IN HIS HEART THAT FOR THIS WAS HE BORN.

HE SHOULDERED HIS CROSS AND WALKED DOWN THAT LONE ROAD.

THAT LED TO HIS DEATH ON MOUNT CALVARY

THE PAIN THAT HE HAD TO ENDURE.

HE COULD HAVE SENT TWELVE LEGIONS OF ANGELS.

BUT FOR THE SINS OF ALL HE WAS THE CURE

BUT FOR THE SINS OF ALL HE WAS THE CURE.

12 Legions of Angels

When we look and think about the last days of Jesus here on earth, it’s beyond our thought process.  There are certain times in our lives where we will think, in a day or week, this mess will be all over.  It can be something as mundane as jury duty, or something as wondrous as having a baby.  There a so many rough days ahead, then it will be over.

Imagine the thoughts that Jesus was having.  After a very bumpy road in the ministry time of his life.  It seemed he was either loved greatly or hated with a passion.  Several times people wanted to kill him, and he just walked from their midst.  Well  now was the real deal.  He knew what was next.  When he went to the garden for prayer with his chosen disciples, he had to put up with incompetence once again.  His closest friends and confidants were failing him.  They couldn’t stay up to pray with him.  Talk about a bummer...  Through His time with his father, He knows he’d rather not continue on this path to Calvary, but He knew that was why he was here.

Next comes that horrible kiss from Judas and Peter grabs the sword and slices off a guards ear.  You know that Jesus has to just be shaking his head in disbelief as he calms down his troops and heals the guards ear.  At that point I would think that everyone there would have just agreed that this was a big mistake and went home.  But no, this mess was just beginning.  Jesus looks at his disciples and says, “I could send 12 legions (a legion being 6,000 adding up to 72,000) of angels to get rid of these people and this horrible nightmare.  I don’t have to put up with this if I didn’t want to!  Cool it!  This is why I was sent here in the first place.  Let me do it...  You’ll understand all of this better in a while...
